Come learn how to sew simple slippers that really fit your feet! These are great to wear at home, school, or when you travel. They’re lightweight and can be flattened into a suitcase or folded in half to slip into a smaller bag.
During this hands-on class, you will do a few quick measurements of your feet, draft a simple pattern using a pair of your own flip-flops, and then cut and sew your slippers. You’ll have a pair to wear by the end of class! Upcycling a worn-out sweatshirt or something fleece is highly recommended–reusing something you already have cuts down on waste and saves money on fabric yardage. NOTE: Class price includes several materials.
SKILL LEVEL:
This is a project class suitable for experienced beginners as well as more advanced sewists ages 18 and up. Experience with bias binding is helpful, but not required. (Just plan for imperfections in your binding. No one here will judge your stitching!)
Please note that I will not be teaching students how to sew in this class–you MUST know how to use a sewing machine and know basic sewing terminology so we can spend class time making this project.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:
– Sewing machine with foot pedal and power cable
– Sewing kit (the usual…spool of thread and bobbin, fabric scissors, seam ripper, extra sewing machine needles, measuring tape, thread snips, etc.)
– A garment or blanket made from sweatshirt fleece or microfleece that you’re willing to cut up (slipper fabric needs to be fairly thick and only slightly stretchy–no t-shirts or woven fabrics, please)
– Flip-flops that fit your feet (to trace for your slipper soles)
– Magic Clips or small binder clips (to secure binding around thick layers for sewing)
– Your adventurous self
WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED:
– Gripper fabric for slipper soles
– Padding for slipper soles
– Binding in a variety of colors to choose from
– Materials for tracing and pattern making
