Get Knitting – Cast On and Knit

Come learn how to cast on and knit! This is an introduction to knitting for the true beginner. In this class, you will learn to cast on and make a swatch using the knit stitch.

SUPPLIES YOU SHOULD BRING:

Worsted weight yarn in a solid color (nothing fuzzy or textured; recommend Cascade 220 Superwash Merino or similar)
US size 8 straight knitting needles (recommend bamboo or plastic because they are “grippy”)
Scissors or snips

Get Sewing – How to Use Your Sewing Machine

Come learn how to use your sewing machine so you can make things! This hands-on class will teach you everything about your sewing machine, tools and accessories, needles, and how to stitch, all in a single session. Perfect if you have never used a sewing machine or if it has been a minute since you last used one. You will learn about all the parts of your sewing machine, along with how to set up and thread your machine, wind a bobbin, and sew precise seam allowances using a regular straight stitch. We will practice pivoting (turning corners) and explore different stitch types as time allows. Whether your machine has not made it out of the box yet or it has been hiding for years, we will get you stitching in no time!

SUPPLIES YOU SHOULD BRING:

Sewing machine and all its parts (power cable, foot pedal, and all accessories that came with it, including presser feet, bobbins and needle)
Sewing machine manual (search online for a downloadable copy if yours has gone missing)
Sewing kit (at a minimum: sharp scissors, hem gauge or small narrow grid ruler, pins, extra machine needles, and a seam ripper)
Scrap fabric for stitching practice (must be woven and non-stretchy like quilting cotton, muslin, or an old pillowcase)
A full-sized spool of all-purpose sewing machine thread (please avoid small spools that come in many sewing kits as well as serger thread cones)
Enthusiasm and sew-y energy

Get Knitting – Purl, Rib, Bind Off

Hooray, you can knit! Now it is time to learn to purl and bind off so you can make ribbing and take a project off your needles. You will be able to show off your new skills with a simple washcloth/dish towel project that we will start in class. Grab your needles and get ribbing!

Get Knitting – Find It, Fix It!

In this hands-on knitting class, you will practice picking up dropped stitches, fixing holes, untwisting stitches, correcting stitch mounts, and reversing rogue knits or purls. You will learn how to use a lifeline and how to move stitches to a double pointed needle (dpn) or waste yarn for ease in managing live stitches. We will focus on the most common stockinette and garter stitch mistakes, so if you can confidently knit or purl, you can fix mistakes!

Please Note: This class will require pre-work swatches. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD PRE-WORK INSTRUCTIONS.

SUPPLIES YOU SHOULD BRING:

Class pre-work swatches (pre-work will be 3-4 “mistake” swatches using size 8 needles and worsted weight yarn)
The knitting needles you used to knit your pre-work swatches
A set of double pointed needles the same size as above
Medium sized crochet hook (H, I, or J will work)
2 stitch holders
A few yards of scrap/waste yarn
Tapestry needle
Scissors or snips
Your knitting juju
